The verb haben (to have)
Haben is one of the most essential German verbs. It is irregular, requires the accusative case, and doubles as an auxiliary for the Perfekt of most verbs.

haben as Perfekt auxiliary
Most verbs use haben to form the Perfekt: Ich habe gegessen (I ate), Wir haben gespielt (We played), Er hat gearbeitet (He worked). Verbs of motion or change of state use sein instead.
⚠️ The irregular forms to memorise: ich habe, du hast, er/sie/es hat, ihr habt. Note that wir haben and sie/Sie haben are identical to the infinitive stem.
